Utica News: Eliminate the Oneida County Government?
In
a time when things seem to be merging left and right, schools,
governments, etc. it seems like maybe it is time for the Oneida County
government to be absorbed by the State Government. There is already
some case studies on how this was done in Connecticut a decade ago. The
official opinion of CyberVillage is that the fact that the EDGE and
other county movements that don't see to actually produce measurable
results might need to be erased.
Although
there are some good people working at the EDGE, these entities are a
colossal money pit. They do not produce measurable results, they
conduct absurd studies that come to the conclusion that another high
tech firm locally will help us. There was NO NECESSITY for a study to
inform us that a high tech chip firm would be good!

Utica News: Final Hinckley Report - More of the Same? The final report of the Hinckley Working Group is out and many have been very critical of the supposed results as more of the same. More reasons to spend more money without any real identification of the real facts or root causes of the problem at Hinckley that occurred last year. I see two items in the list that the Fault Lines blog posted. Upgrading infrastructure and additional upstream reservoirs might be the meatiest pieces of the report.

Utica News: Abolish The Thruway Authority!
A
well written article in Fault Lines is strongly opposed to the Thruway
rate hikes. It calls for the abolition of the Thruway Authority. From
our perspective here at CyberVillage, we agree. Without the canal
system under their authority the Thruway authority is just another
taxing agency. It is supposedly one of the the best maintained roads in
the USA, but why then do they still hold me up in the middle of the day
while I travel? The funds that go to this authority disappear into the
black whole that is the New York government. I am going to go out onto
a limb here and state that in our opinion at CyberVillage this once
great state is in the process of committing suicide. I see it myself
from a business perspective, and from stories like this one. The state
of New York is taxing and spending itself to death. More Resources: Fault Lines

Utica News: Lost Chamber Lost Jobs
The
number 1 loser is the Utica area chamber. It now calls itself the
Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce and "Utica" is literally lost on its
website. While the site shows some professional design work, the photo
show is limited to 4 pictures: of the Stanley Stage, the Boilermaker,
Ft. Stanwix, and Herkimer Diamond Mines. The first two are not
identified as being in Utica, and the latter two are not even in the
Greater Utica area but are in areas having their own chambers. Read More at Fault Lines
Utica News: New Petition to Change Neilson Street to Lindsey Ave
This
is an effort to honor the fallen Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey
who was killed on Neilson Street during a traffic stop. Comments
through News10Now.com were mostly about the potholes in the road. I
don't think they could miss the point any more, but we also should look
into why the Road was named Neilson in the first place. Maybe it is
more fitting to name a new road to Lindsey Ave.
